Chiang Mai University (CMU) is the third oldest university in Thailand, and the first and largest outside of Bangkok. Over the last 15 years, CMU has established the academic network with the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) in conducting research and monitoring substance use disorders. In 2016, the Faculty of Medicine in partnership with UCLA (Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior) received SAMHSA/PEPFAR funding to create the SEA HIV-Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC) that expanded its research efforts to include clinical capacity-building, system-strengthening, and workforce development within Thailand and across Southeast Asia. Engaging a multi-disciplinary network of providers, clinicians, and researchers, the project built the first ECHO site in Northern Thailand, and has become a critical healthcare and research partner to its federal and provincial governments, and our broader community.

Mahidol University (MU) is top-ranked among Thai universities in the World University Rankings in teaching and international diversity. Welcome to and Experience Chiang Mai

Once the capital of the ancient Lanna Kingdom and now Thailand's second largest city founded by King Meng Rai since 1296 around the same time as the establishment of the Sukhothai Kingdom, the first national capital, Chiang Mai literally means “new city” and has retained the name despite celebrating its 700th anniversary in 1996. Located in the mountain area, Chiang Mai serves as the religious, economic, cultural, handicraft, educational, and transportation center of northern Thailand.

Chiang Mai is one of the most attractive tourist destinations significantly differently from the other part of Thailand offering visitors many exciting experiences from food, culture, landscape, to the weather. Although August is in the midst of the rainy season with the average temperature
about 27°C (80°F), it is the best times to visit Chiang Mai as the nature and scenery are at their deepest green.

The city is renowned as a center of Thai handicrafts. Small villages nearby specialize in crafts such as silverwork, wood carving, pottery, Thai silk, umbrellas, and lacquerware where the Lanna heritage takes shape all over the city in the forms of language, clothing, art, architecture, music, food, and more. Not to be missed highlights:

☑ Learn about Lanna culture ☑ Explore over 300 ancient temples
☑ Walk around old city wall route ☑ Visit centuries-old pagodas and historic sites
☑ Meet ethnic hill tribes ☑ Purchase memorable hand-crafted souvenirs
